So, it has been a rough few weeks around here lately…(ahem, make that a rough few months) and I was trying to think of a good book I can curl up with to relax. I’m feeling the need to withdraw from my hectic world for awhile and escape into another more vivid, distant one in which someone else deals with all the problems. So, which book should I choose to lose myself in? I want total brain candy, escapist, comfort fiction…

This brought me to the question: What do you read to calm down when life is chaotic? Am I the only one who does this? Anyone have any suggestions?

Otherwise, I think I’m resorting to Flowers in the Attic series which is due for a reread anyway. (However, I will NOT be buying the new, re-released one I saw in Books-a-Million with the waif-y looking girl on the cover by Virginia, not V.C., Andrews…I’ve posted this travesty below so you can see what I mean.)Um…that’s not Cathy. And boy, do I ever hate re-releases.

  1. The books that I turn to when the world gets to be too much are the first three Kusheline books by Jacqueline Carey (Kushiel’s Dart, Kushiel’s Chosen, and Kushiel’s Avatar). Other people get to deal with all the issues, but at the end of the horrible day, love and human decency conquers all. Sounds much cheesier than the books are (seriously, they are my favorite three books).

I also return to The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger for similar reasons as stated above. I’d encourage you to give them a try!

Oh, I LOVE The Time Traveller’s Wife (not so much the movie version)…never heard of the Kusheline ones, but I think I may just have to look for them.

Why, Wheel of Time, of course!

Ugh, I just realized who that cover girl reminds me of. Kate Bosworth…
