Cloaked – Alex Flinn

cloakedI did not like this book. Not the writing, not the dropped storylines, not the obvious plot twists or the boringness or the narrator’s voice. I basically hated everything about it. Cloaked didn’t kick any puppies, to my knowledge, but I’m still kind of mad at it.

But also, the writing is…not very good. Lots of short sentences a la “I opened the door. I saw Meg. I sat down. I wondered what to do. I had no idea.”

And the first half of the book really put me off because it seemed to be about a boy with a pretty severe foot fetish. All he talks about are shoes and feet, and it’s…weird for a teenage boy.

At the end of the book there’s an author’s note describing the fairy tales that were picked to be part of the story, and she seems to have picked them just because they’re obscure and no one knows them? Which seems like weird criteria to me.

I might try reading Beastly just cause I love fairy tale remakes and I’ve heard a lot about it. But I’m not really expecting it to be great, after this one.
