So, this to me seemed like it was set in the wrong era. I know it had to be pre-DNA (or wait, maybe not, since wouldn’t identical twins share DNA?), but really? Victorian era? I do remember thinking the storyline felt compelling when I read the blurb, but then wasn’t super impressed when I actually read it, perhaps because of that disconnect with the time period. It took a good 49% of the book to actually get to the murder, and then the narrator goes back and forth (is it mom?, it isn’t mom, it is mom?) so many times, I can’t even remember what the final resolution was when trying to type this review two days later! There were also too many love story bits when I was expecting a mystery/thriller. Blargh…see, I HATE books!

Revising to add: I remembered after posting how this ended up and it was utterly unsatisfying and so implausible I now have to add, without caveat, this is a DO NOT READ. Seriously, ridiculous and time-wasting.
