The Inner Circle by Brad Meltzer

This one’s about a secretive society (read: spy group) devised originally by George Washington to protect the President and provide him with useful information. The book is largely set in the National Archives which is fascinating to me as I love all things related to D.C. The novel is fast-paced, ambitious, and as in any good thriller, things are not always what they seem. I can’t say I loved this one, but it was a fun romp through famous places I’ve actually been to (a plus!). It’s also about a fairly classic tale of the little guy versus the corrupt political machine grown too big to stop (It reminded me of The Da Vinci Code at times in that respect, also a win!). All in all, I found The Inner Circle enjoyable but not a show stopper.

*I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Kindle e-book came with another seemingly unrelated book included at the end (entirely free!); this one was Cabinet of Curiosities, by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child featuring their singular detective Pendergast. Haven’t read this one yet.
